Fall Break

Okay, so I'm not really as bored as that picture probably makes me seem.

It's just that I don't wake up until mid-afternoon; I sleep a lot; I've been taking a break from homework and life in general; I've hung out with dormies and had intensely personal conversations until the wee hours of the morning; I've gone to Powells Books (and bought 100 Years of Solitude); I've read comic books; I've wasted time on the internet (it took me forever to upload that photo--for some reason my computer's being slow today);I've gotten part of the way through Vladamir Nabokov's Invitation to a Beheading; I've gone to my friend Katie's house a little ways off campus to watch movies and eat cookies; all in all, though, the days are very slow. I spend a lot of time in my room or wandering aimlessely.

I feel unproductive, but then why do I have to be productive? It's break. It's my break from school and stress and whatever, right? I can't decide if it's relaxing or if it makes me stirr crazy.

I mean I do have little adventures. Monday I helped out at the reactor. I explored my dorm's attic. I rode over to Hawthorne to buy new glasses frames. I had a spurr-of-the-moment trip downtown with some people I was only vaguely acquainted with through a conversation about how all of us wanted an adventure in commons (the dining hall).

I guess I kind of like the bustle of school. The work and the intense interpersonal drama that comes from a bunch of 18-24 year olds living in the same community, and the feeling that campus isn't dead.
